FurnitureORIGINS 2017

FurnitureORIGINS is a collaboration initiative between NAFA and King Mongkut’s University of Technology Thonburi (KMUTT), Thailand for the fourth consecutive year. This learning exchange focused on developing skills in design professionalism and entrepreneurship and establishing a network between students from the two countries.

Three earlier collections will be on display alongside the new 2017 collection, which is titled ‘Back to Basics’. Mentored by three established designers – Krit Phutpim and Pote Nilsa-ard from Thailand, as well as George Soo from Singapore, students from both schools worked together to create ideas for a new furniture design collection with Thai manufacturers, Hawaii Thai and Deesawat. The first initiative began in September 2014,  where design work was carried out both in Singapore and Bangkok, with the final designs prototyped in Thailand.

In this latest installation, a total of 16 students participated, eight of whom major in Furniture & Spatial Design as part of NAFA’s 3D Design programme, and another eight students who major in Industrial Design and Interior Architecture at KMUTT’s School of Architecture and Design.

FurnitureORIGINS 2017 is part of a slew of activities under Singapore Design Week 2017.
