For The Record: (pre)position by CharChey
(Pre)position examines the role of place in identity. Using the backdrop of Waterloo St and Queen St, CharChey explore Eurasian enclaves, road names and historical archives to trace the places and people that once were. The exhibition uses found poetry, handbound books and on-site installations to examine how interpretations of the same source can lead to differing narratives.
The exhibition is the 2nd phase of For the Record, a 3-phase project exploring Eurasian narratives in Singapore. It expands on the work of the 1st phase, a spoken word performance that took place on 17 and 18 February 2017.
For the Record is being developed under National Arts Council’s Creation Grant and is supported by Centre 42.
